MEET KENT LOVERN

Champion of Justice

For over 26 years Kent has worked tirelessly as a prosecutor and advocate to keep our community safe, fight corruption and misconduct, and help those who are struggling get the support and treatment they need.   He has been making real change happen for the people of Milwaukee County.

A Career Prosecutor Keeping our Streets Safe

Kent has been a prosecutor for 26 years, taking on violent crime and making our streets safer.  As Chief Deputy District Attorney since 2008, Kent has managed 125 attorneys and 150 support staff in the District Attorney's Office.  Kent has worked with law enforcement to be tough on crime and take violent offenders off the street.  At the same time, he has also held accountable police officers who violate the law.  He has brought together community members to address the complexities of domestic violence and mental health.  Kent has been at the heart of tackling many of Milwaukee County's most difficult challenges, earning the trust of law enforcement, community leaders and advocates for reform by being fair and straightforward.

A Community Leader with Heart and Grit

In his years in the District Attorney's Office, Kent has seen how the justice system cannot solve all the challenges in our community.  He is a leader who understands the power of partnerships with others in order to make a difference.  He has held leadership roles at Sojourner Family Peace Center, helping to rebuild families affected by domestic violence, and MKE Urban Stables, providing much needed therapy to our teenagers and veterans, while bridging the gaps between the community and police.  Kent is truly focused on making a difference.

A Vision for Milwaukee's Future

Kent has lived in the Milwaukee community for 30 years and knows that everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods.  He believes that someone who is a threat to others requires a strong response.  That's why he wants to crack down on reckless driving, treating it as the violent crime it is and seeking more serious sentences from the judicial system.

Kent will build stronger partnerships with the local business community to expand economic development to all neighborhoods knowing that safe communities are critical for families and businesses to thrive, and that stable housing and family sustaining jobs are essential to reduce crime.

Kent knows that people who struggle with mental illness and addiction need and deserve help that is best provided through the healthcare system, not the prison system.  He also believes that those who have spent time in the prison system ought to have the best opportunities for success when they return to our community.

Kent's adult life has been about Milwaukee County.  He lives in Shorewood with his wife Susan where they have raised their two sons.  He is someone who sees the big picture but who has never forgotten where he came from.  He does not just work for Milwaukee County, but is part of its heartbeat, striving to make our corner of the world a better place for everyone.
